Sue Russell

Sue RussellSue Russell was raised in Denver, Colorado where she spent much of her youth exploring the beautiful Rocky Mountains. It was there that she developed a great respect and appreciation of the wonders of nature. She was especially fascinated by Mother Nature’s pallet of textures and colors. Thus, an artist emerged who experimented with many types of media, including: pencil, pen, pastels, watercolor, acrylics and oils. Eventually, this led to other artistic endeavors in silversmithing, stained glass, textiles, pottery, crafts, and beaded jewelry design.

Sue received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. Her professional career was focused in the fields of printing, graphic design, and public relations; where she enjoyed communicating to the public through visual design. Now retired, Sue decided to once again pick up a paint brush to pursue her love of painting.

Living in Las Vegas, NV since 1980 has inspired Sue to create imagery of the incredible desert southwest; including its flora, fauna, and landscapes. With a current focus on desert wildlife, she creates images that capture the spirit and strength necessary for inhabiting such a harsh environment. She depicts this “essence of survival” through remarkable inner depth in her subjects’ eyes and facial expressions.

With her elegant life-like animal renditions, more and more clients are also commissioning Sue to create portraits of beloved pets or favorite photographs.

With exquisite detail, Sue’s art depicts a genuine devotion to the dignity of animals and the splendor of nature. Her use of color, light, and texture inspires awe of the natural world. But even more, her images stir a deep enthusiasm for life and reverence for beauty that inspires the soul.
